Electrocardiographic and Blood Electrolyte Changes in Goats following Single Intravenous Furosemide Administration

چکیده
Fifteen clinically healthy non-pregnant 4-year-old Iranian Najdi does were divided into 3 equal experimental groups (n=5) and received different doses of furosemide intravenously (Group 1: 2.5 mg.kg; Group 2: 5 mg.kg and Group 3: 10 mg.kg). Electrocardiogram recordings and blood samplings to evaluate serum sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus concentrations were performed prior and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 24 hours after furosemide administration. In Group 3, R amplitude at 5 hour was significantly different from other experimental groups (P=0.001) and significantly higher than baseline level (P=0.001). P-R, R-R and S-T intervals in Group 3 at 5 hour were significantly higher than in other groups (P<0.05). These parameters in Group 3 at this time were significantly higher than baseline values (P<0.05). In all 3 experimental groups, serum concentrations of sodium, chloride and potassium at 5 hour were significantly lower than baseline levels at hour zero. It may be suggested that changes of electrocardiographic parameters after furosemide administration are due to alterations of the electrical conduction of action potential in the myocardium.

Furosemide Induced Electrocardiographic Alterations in High Producing Holstein Dairy Cows
Diuretics have several therapeutic advantages in dairy cows but there are different side effects such as acid-base and electrolyte imbalances which may affect the electrocardiographic parameters. Fifteen multiparous, clinically healthy, non-pregnant and high producing 4-year-old Holstein dairy cows at their early lactation period were randomly divided into 3 equal experimental groups. Furosemid...
متن کاملThe Pharmacokinetics of Rafoxanide following Single Dose Intravenous and Oral Administration in Goats
The study was conducted to determine the plasma concentrations and pharmacokinetic parameters of rafoxanide after a single intravenous (10 mg/kg) and oral (22.5 mg/kg) administrations in black Bengal female goats. Maximum (87.63 11.71 mg/mL) and minimum (1.8 0.24 mg/mL) plasma concentrations of rafoxanide were recorded at 0.08 and 12 h respectively after i.v. administration. The elimination h...
متن کاملPulmonary function changes after nebulised and intravenous frusemide in ventilated premature infants.
AIMS To compare the effects of a single dose of frusemide administered either intravenously or by nebulisation on pulmonary mechanics in premature infants with evolving chronic lung disease. METHODS The effect of frusemide on pulmonary mechanics was studied at a median postnatal age of 23 (range 14-52) days in 19 premature infants at 24 to 30 weeks gestational age, who had been dependent on m...
متن کاملPharmacokinetics and Dosage Regimen of Cefepime Following Single Dose Intravenous Administration in Calves
Pharmacokinetics of cefepime was studied after single dose intravenous administration at the dose rate of 5 mg/kg body weight in calves. Blood samples were collected from the jugular vein at predetermined time intervals before and after drug administration. Serum was harvested and analysed for cefepime concentration by reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography. Following intravenous...
متن کاملReal-time urinary electrolyte monitoring after furosemide administration in surgical ICU patients with normal renal function
BACKGROUND Although the loop-diuretic furosemide is widely employed in critically ill patients with known long-term effects on plasma electrolytes, accurate data describing its acute effects on renal electrolyte handling and the generation of plasma electrolyte alterations are lacking. We hypothesized that the long-term effects of furosemide on plasma electrolytes and acid-base depend on its im...
